Part 2 Up Part 4

Summary

Part 3, Summit of Logan Pass to Glacier National Park exit

Got to the summit of Logan Pass, on Going to the Sun Road. Wanted to check out the little building they always have at the summits and such in National Parks, but it was closed for remodeling. The restrooms were open, though, so I used them.

While I was up there, I got out and walked around a bit. The walkways that would I imagine under normal circumstances go to little viewpoints and such were all covered in several feet of snow, since the road through the park had only been open for a few days. So, I walked around on the snow in my flip-flops, and got some nice people to take a picture of me.

Continued on down the road, past Saint Mary Lake (another large lake, similar to Lake McDonald, but on the east side of the park), and to the exit, in St. Mary, MT.

Looking back down the road I had come up, from the summit of Logan Pass.

More of the view from the summit, and one of the huge snowdrifts on the side of the road.

Me walking around on the snowfields at the summit. I took a picture of a couple of nice people from who knows where who had almost exactly the same camera as me. (They had the S200, which is what I used to have. Now I have the S230.) They offered to take a picture of me, too, so I happily accepted. This was the first attempt. They almost managed to include both me and the nearby mountain peak.

They asked if they should try taking another one, and I said "sure! This time, take it vertical, so you can get both me and the mountain." So of course this time they got only part of me, and none of the mountain. Oh well.

The snowfield at the summit.

Some trees and such.

View looking to the east. There wasn't anybody coming on the road, and there weren't any turnouts nearby, so I was actually stopped in the middle of the road here.

More of the view from slightly below the summit.

View of one of the steep mountainsides that you could see from where I was blocking the road.

Looking back toward Logan Pass from a pullout a little futher down the road.

Another view back toward the summit, showing one of the "hanging valleys" that they talk about on the official National Park map.

Ah, now you see that there are two nearly identical little peaks.

Reddish/brownish mountains along the road down from the summit.

Saint Mary Lake, another skinny, southwest-to-northeast lake along Going to the Sun Road.

Zoomed in a bit, to show some of the detail in the mountains.

Surrounding mountains and the slough between Saint Mary Lake and Lower Saint Mary Lake, on my way out of the park.
