Part 1 Up Part 3

Summary

Part 2, Hiking up to Cheakamus Lake

The trail leading up to Cheakamus Lake was quite nice. It meandered slowly through some beautiful old-growth forest, with some splashes of fall color thrown in the mix just for fun. Not really any views to speak of until you got to the lake itself, but wow, the views were worth it.

Looking back along the trail, with some yellow leaves for kicks.

Very similar view. I threw both of them in Rate Dave's Photos. Sometimes the small differences between photos can make a decent difference in how much people like them. For instance, my perception was that in the first one, the first thing that catches my eye is the trail itself, then I see the tree. In this one, it's the opposite. I don't know, what do you think?

Some of those broad-leafed ground cover type plants, in a little gully. I wish I knew what to call them. "Ferns" isn't really accurate, I don't think. But I got a ton of pictures of them, because some of them were starting to change color.

A fairly typical, extremely green, old-growth forest floor.

More forest floor.

An old stump, and some little green ground cover. I really like this picture, but since it was dark, my camera needed a slightly long shutter speed, so the picture came out slightly blurry. I didn't realize it at the time, which is a shame, because if I had, I definitely would have taken it again to get it crisp. Then I could have put it in Rate Dave's Photos, and I'd be famous and rich.

Closer to the lake now. View down to the river from the trail.

More ground cover stuff.

Looking up at the sun filtering through some of those broad-leafed plants.

They're everywhere.

And when you get some of them that have started changing, and some sunlight filtering through the treetops, they really shine.

These have seen some better days.

Some color peeking out from across the river. This is just below where the river spills out of the lake.
